Can The Cards Win Three In A Row?
The tension mounts as eager Cardinals fans await Sunday's big game against the Washington Redskins. The Arizona Cardinals have won their first two games of the season and sit atop the NL West Division at 2-0. The Redskins are 1-1. Sunday's game will be played in Washington DC, which is the home of the Redskins. On paper, the Arizona Cardinals appear to have the advantage and should walk away from the nation's Capitol with a victory. But, as history shows (2-6 last year), the Cards do not fair very well on the road. Knowing how the Cardinals perform through past experiences, to win their first 3 games in a row, do the Cardinals even have a chance in Hades?
Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kurt Warner has just received the "Player of the Week" award for his outstanding performance, last Sunday, against the Miami Dolphins. Warner threw for 361 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. He finished the game with a perfect, 158.3 quarterback rating.
Wide-recievers, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are doing their part for the Cardinals. Fitzgerald accumulated 153 yards, last week, on 6 receptions. Anquan finished the day with 140 yards on 6 receptions and 3 touchdowns.
At the start of the season, Anquan Boldin said that he wasn't pleased with his new contract with the Cardinals organization and had requested to be traded. Boldin had his own questions when he was asked about the difficulty of suppressing his feelings.
"Does it seem like it's difficult?" he asked. "I told you (earlier) how I feel about it. I told you it wouldn't be a distraction. From the outside looking in, does it seem like it's a distraction?"
The runningback core for the Cardinals are also stepping up. Edgerinn James ran for 55 yards, last week, on 8 carries.
Rookie, sensation Tim Hightower has accumulated, so far in 2 games, 37 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18 carries. Hightower is used mainly, in short yardage situations. Not, too bad for a rookie.
With so much focus on the Arizona offense, it is easy to overlook the terrific performance of the Cardinals defense. The Cards have only allowed 23 points (23-13 over the San Francisco 49ers and 31-10 over the Miami Dolphins) in the first two victories of the season.
"We're playing well," defensive end Bertrand Berry said. "We've been able to establish a style of play the first couple of games. We're just trying to keep it going."
MESSAGE TO THE ARIZONA CARDINALS:
Keep your head in the game! The party is over and it's time to get back to work. As fans, we have high hopes for this season and are here to support our winning team. The ball is in your proverbial court. Speaking for all of the Cardinals fans in our beautiful state, we are proud of our team. We are proud to be winners. We do not want to be dissapointed...again!
