Cardinals Report: Week 13

Arizona Cardinals Prepare For Philadelphia Eagles
Kurt Warner Is Possible MVP Candidate Of The Year

The Az. Cardinals are 7-4...WOW!!! I have supported this team through thick and thin (mostly thin) since the Cardinals in 1988, decided to call Arizona their home. I have spent the last twenty, sometimes embarrassing, sometimes very embarrassing  years, rooting for this highly-let's call it-unorthodox organization. The Cards are 7-4. To actually get a chance to witness this historical event is better then exciting. Better then monumental. Better then chocolate ice cream on a summer afternoon after you just had a quickie from the girl next door. O.K. -let's not get carried away. To be able to see what the Card's are doing this year is awesome. It's incredible and fun-to-watch football. It is...WOW!!!

At 7-4, the Arizona Cardinals find themselves holding first place in the NFC West and just one win away from clinching their division. The Cards must face the Philadelphia Eagles tomorrow (Thanksgiving) night in Philadelphia. Not only is this a road game, but this match-up will be televised, nationally, on the NFL Network. If you live in Arizona, you will be able to view the game for free on channel 45.

After losing to the New York Giants (37-29) last Sunday in front of a home crowd and receiving the first home loss of the season, the Cardinals must feel disappointed. Perhaps a little pissed off. Maybe it leaves a bad taste in their mouths. It sure leaves one in mine. The Cardinals beat themselves in that game and still had a chance to win. "They are who we thought they were and we let 'em off the hook!"

All jokes aside, the 10-1 Giants, led by quarterback Eli Manning (the same NFL team who won last year's Super Bowl by defeating the New England Patriots) are definitely a great team. The Az. Cardinals are definitely a good team. A very good team. The Cards still have some work to do before they can achieve the level of greatness that great NFL teams possess.

The Cardinals are on the right track. Quarterback Kurt Warner was pictured on the front page of USA Today, yesterday, as the MVP rumors have begun. Warner has accumulated 3509 passing yards* and is on pace for a 5,000 yard season. Kurt is, also, one game and a touchdown away from breaking the record set by, then, Cards quarterback Neil Lomax for 19, consecutive games with, at least, one touchdown.

Arizona head-coach Ken Whisenhunt was only given 4 days to prepare his team for tomorrow night's game. The Cardinals had a light practice on Monday following Sunday's loss, a heavy practice (with pads) on Tuesday, and a light practice today (in the rain). The Cards are now on their way to Philadelphia.

"It will be a tough week," said Whisenhunt after last Sunday's big loss, "but it will be good to see how our team responds to that."

For the record, the Philadelphia Eagles are also coming off a loss as they were defeated 36-7 by the Baltimore Ravens. Eagles quarterback Donovon McNabb was benched at halftime after throwing 3 interceptions. McNabb will start tomorrow's game against the Cardinals.

Knowing, his job is on the line, will have an effect on Donovon's declining performance. Some critics are saying that the aging quarterback is on his way out. Other folks are leaning toward a dramatic rebound and that benching McNabb will be (at the Cardinals expense) somehow, motivational. What the effect will be cannot be determined until tomorrow night's game.

    GO CARDINALS...WOW!!!

*New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees currently holds this years NFL record for accumulated, passing yards at 3574. Brees is also on his way to a 5,000 yard season. Kurt Warner is only 65 yards behind Drew.
